Why I Don’t Celebrate Earth Day (But I Practice Earth Day, Every Day)
Earth Day isn’t just a date on the calendar for me.
It’s a daily practice. A lifelong commitment. A way of living, choosing, and creating.
As the founder of WoodSprite Organic Body, I’ve built my business around sustainability—not as a trend, but as a way of being. I’ve been doing this work for over 25 years—long before “eco-friendly” became a buzzword or marketing tactic. Back then, “green beauty” wasn’t a thing. It was just me in the kitchen, usually covered in shea butter and good intentions.
Every bar of soap, every body oil, every soy aromatherapy candle I pour by hand is made with deep care for the Earth and all who live on it.
So no, I don’t run Earth Day specials. Not because I don’t care—but because I care deeply.
Because I believe sustainability shouldn't be a once-a-year marketing moment. It should be woven into our lives, our values, and our everyday choices.
And maybe it makes me a bad entrepreneur, but “Buy More Stuff to Celebrate the Planet” has never really been my style.
Years ago, I started a little blog series called “365 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day, Every Day.” I’m still working through that list, by the way. Some are easy—like switching to a bamboo toothbrush. Others… well, let’s just all agree that composting in a Michigan winter builds character.
But to be clear: Yes, I absolutely do celebrate Earth Day. I honor it. I love what it represents. I just don’t believe it should be the only day we show up for this beautiful planet, our only home.
For me, sustainability is not a sales tactic. It’s in my bones. It’s in the essential oils I choose, the eco-conscious packaging I use, the decisions I make behind the scenes—every single day. It’s part of the way I live, the way I work, and the way I hope to make a difference.
So this Earth Day, I’m not offering a discount or launching a campaign. I'm not trying to sell you something. I’m just continuing what I do every day: making things with love, care, and respect for the Earth.
Because it feels good, doesn't it? It feels good to care, to choose wisely, to be part of a community that believes in something better. Because it’s in the consistently doing a little good every day that adds up to a lot!
Thanks for walking this path with me--every day.
